What we are building

Engines of Purpose is a service lodge in formation under Valhalla Forge. It brings young people, families, mentors, and local businesses together to build enterprises that perform useful work and develop capable people.

  1. Identify a real need.

  2. Build a lawful service around it.

  3. Teach young people to understand the work, serve customers, solve problems, and accept responsibility.

  4. Record what works, what fails, and what must change.

  5. Use each working enterprise to help form the people who will build the next one.

Money is fuel, not the destination. Each enterprise must create genuine value and learn to sustain itself without confusing revenue with purpose.

The first engine: a service-enterprise pilot in Juneau

The first Engines of Purpose pilot is being developed around practical service work. Young people are participating in interviews, planning, observation, and mentored enterprise development before the service is represented as fully operational.

We are accepting inquiries from local businesses and organizations that may need recurring or project-based cleaning support, be willing to discuss their service needs, help young people understand professional expectations, or consider becoming an early customer when the pilot is ready.

Submitting an inquiry does not create a booking or service agreement. It begins a conversation and helps the team build the pilot around real local needs.

Engines of Purpose needs experienced people who can help young participants understand customers, pricing, safety, quality, scheduling, communication, and the discipline of keeping a promise.

A partner may offer an interview, technical advice, mentorship, a site visit, an early service opportunity, equipment, or another form of practical support.

Young people and families may register interest in future Engines of Purpose opportunities. Participation is developmental and supervised; an expression of interest is not an offer of employment or guaranteed placement.

Why this exists

What if work formed people instead of consuming them?

Engines of Purpose begins with the belief that productive work can be part of human formation. A young person should be able to learn how value is created, why agreements matter, how money moves, what customers expect, and how individual effort becomes responsibility to others.

People who are helped to rise accept responsibility for helping form those who follow. That is the larger covenant behind the work.

We will show the work honestly.

As the first engine develops, this page will publish a dated record of interviews and needs discovered, skills practiced, partners participating with permission, services tested, revenue earned when operations begin, problems encountered, changes made, and responsibilities demonstrated.

The purpose is not to manufacture success stories. It is to build a model that can be examined, improved, and eventually repeated.

Organizational clarity

Valhalla Forge is a 501(c)(10) Grand Lodge. Evolution Lodge No. 9 is a subordinate lodge. Engines of Purpose is a service lodge in formation under Valhalla Forge. Forge of Light Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) public charity.
